Being recently introduced to chayote squash it was decided to experiment with cooking the fruit. Price was 99 cents each. The fruit was cut into quarters, skin and the seed pod included. Some butter and olive oil was placed in a heavy frying pan. The chayote was cooked on medium heat about 15 minutes. Then a minced onion was added and cooked about five minutes. Pictures depict the process. It is very pleasant tasting. I am going to attempt growing in my zone 5 this Summer.

I love chayote, I like to use it for soups and salads. I like its flavor because it tastes a bit more mild than the other squashes :) Too bad the place where I am going they don't even know chayotes.

I didn't even know chayote squash existed until about two weeks ago. I must say it is an excellent product. I truly like it. Steamed and sautéed in a bit of butter is my method. Adding onions is a nice touch also. I hope I can successfully grow it in my Zone 5,which is problematic.

I eat chayote on a very regular basis. In my region it is known as christophine. It is also considered a vegetable here, not a fruit. I use an easy method for cooking it. I just peel off the outside skin, slice the christophine into smaller pieces, and steam it in a steamer over a medium heat. I then eat it just as it is, with no added butter or seasonings.

Chayote is a vegetable for us as well. It is called Cho-cho for us. It's not very common here and is eaten in our house in stir fries, soups, boiled and eaten with butter.. in almost any way really. I particularly love it pickled with scotch bonnet peppers. It is also good when stir fried with dried shrimps.

I also love chayote as well, and my favorite way of eating this, is making soup with it and pieces of shrimp. Sometimes, we just boil them up and eat since it is so very sweet by itself and delicious.

I am not familiar with Chayote but the way @Durgan makes his meals, it always gets my mouth watering.

I should be on the lookout for it and try it out myself.
