    Anyone know what these are?

What is your soil? It looks like raw compost, too much straw, manure and stuff for potting in containers particularly for seeds, over wet, and the fungus is growing on the straw.

    Anyone know what these are?

Looks like a jelly fungus thing. I'm actually not exactly sure whether the thing I've seen like that is a fungus, algae, liverwort or what, but it is squishy little yellow-brown fruiting bodies on the surface, about the size of a pin head, and it only grows in really wet soil. Are you...

    Grow room problems

It looks to me like you've got some pretty serious nutrient deficiencies ... possibly Calcium, potassium, multiple nutrients? Could be a PH issue locking them out. Is there fertiliser in the soil? They might just want feeding. For specific deficiencies, Find a good guide to symptoms, (I like...

Any tips on establishing a better soil in my garden?

Funnily enough such test kits are not common in stores where I live (New Zealand) ... the test kits in garden centres are only PH kits. I think my google algorithm has been messing with me, obviously such kits are common in stores where you are, yet I type up DIY soil test kit and I'm getting...

What are these tiny Larvae coming out of my pots??

Forgot to say, they have antennae. I'm wondering about Springtails or Thrips??

What are these tiny Larvae coming out of my pots??

I have millions of tiny (1mm long, maximum) little larvae like tiny maggots or worms in my pots. I don't think they are fungus gnat larvae, but I may be wrong. Fungus gnat larvae are usually bigger, proportionally longer, and these new ones are a bit dark and stripey too. I have strips of...

Any tips on establishing a better soil in my garden?

I LOVE those tests, absolutely if you can get something like that for free from your local govt. you should do so!! I wish New Zealand councils offered perks like that, something useful, I wouldn't mind the land rates half so much ... the only services I get out of WDC are a library membership...

Any tips on establishing a better soil in my garden?

I'd be looking to add a lot of 'organic matter' to that soil for a start, yes hay and wood chips will be ideal but take months to incorporate, so use them as mulch (THICK mulch) every year and it'll help with your structure and water/nutrient retention. In the shorter term I'd be keen to add...

    Odd broccoli growth

Yep it's 'bolted' or gone to seed. The heat is probably your problem. I do, myself, have a problem with broccoli, as it tends to make a tiny head and then bolt. Because of that I favour growing Cauliflower, which makes lovely big firm heads, including 'Brocoflower" which is green cauliflower...

    Anyone grown hydroponic garlic?

So I've had such really good success with Onions in the hydroponics that I think I'll try Garlic. (Onions take up so much space I think Garlic would be better value for the small area of my hydro bed, plus I've never grown garlic well in the garden so it's something different to try) I've got...

Any tips on establishing a better soil in my garden?

Could you take a picture ... show us the texture and colour of the freshly turned soil? As a gardener I'm all hands and eyes on and it's like reading brail trying to guess from myriads of issues your soil could have. A pic of a typical suffering plant in the garden would be helpful too. I had...

Broccoli and cabbage leaves turning purple

Fertilise them. Purple tones usually mean phosphorous deficiency ... but the slow growth/purple leaves often involves nitrogen deficiency too, if your oldest leaves are turning yellow/pink and falling off? For quick access, get some general garden granular fertiliser, grind/soak to dissolve it...
