Hello my name is Faith and I have been around the gardening scene for about 4 years now. My husband is generally the master mind behind a thriving pepper, cucumber, tomato, and zucchini garden. However, I am thinking of starting a separate small herb garden so that I can have fresh herbs to add to recipes. Anyone else with an herb garden feel free to share tips, experiences, and harvest of your herb garden with me.

I don't have a really big herb garden. Just some of the herbs that I usually use. I have basil and oregano. I chose to plant basil because I use it often especially when I cook pasta - not just pesto! The oregano was given to us by a neighbor, and I just replanted it. Aside from using it when I am cooking, oregano has various medicinal benefits, too. When my nephew has a cold, I just make an oregano tea. He instantly feels better. :)

Faith, it would help to know where you are. I'm in Texas, and I'd sure feel silly giving specific advice to someone in Wisconsin!
That said, I've grown herbs for years and you are so right--having fresh, home-grown herbs to cook with is a real joy. I suggest basil, an annual that can be used fresh, or chopped fine, put in a bit of water, and frozen in an ice cube tray for later use. Chives are perennial and are used fresh--a great topping for baked potatoes, stirred into beans, etc. Oregano is great--it dries well and is also wonderful fresh.
There are lots of other wonderful and easy to grow herbs. Let's continue this conversation on the herbs forum!
