If there are any seniors around this poem is for them

Retirement Bliss Not Blues

When retirement age draws near,

There lurks an unknown fear,

Of being a nobody…….

Once a somebody!!

How Faulty this thinking is,

When life gets a fresh lease,

To do what one really wants,

With none to boss with shouts and taunts.

Doing things at a tarried pace,

No more to rush or race,

Stopping by to smell the flowers,

Sitting by the sea for hours.

Relaxing in ones favourite chair,

With no tension, not a care,

Doing what one wants to do,

With hobbies revived and interests too.

Plenty of time to cheer the weary,

Share it with the said and dreary,

The world needs these mature minds,

Among them are some rare finds.

Cheer up all you about to retire,

The world as you think is not on fire,

Move forward with a healthy mind,

And happiness, you are sure to find.

When I retired it was to what my second passion was--gardening! When my husband retired, he went to his second passion--wood working (and helping in the gardens, which he didn't realize was his passion until I told him so).
Like your poem since it pretty well sums up how retirees should look at life!

Thank you Groiue, those words ring true. :) My husband and I are just coming up for retirement and we have just set things in motion to make a big and exciting change in our lives. Our three children are busy leading their own lives (in three different countries) and we don't want to spend our senior years vegetating now we are free to do other things. :)

I wrote this for my husband when he was about to retire. The best part of one's life is after one retires.

Beautiful :) Yesterday we were watching a TV show talking about seniors, and how in our society we need to learn to value our seniors more. Because they were saying that over here we tend to see seniors as a burden :( We need to change that, we will be old one day as well...

Seniors should learn to be independent of their progeny as they too have enough to handle.
